More About The Organisation
Mentoring Plus is a registered local charity which supports our young and most vulnerable by connecting them with inspirational mentors within the community. This project works across Bath & North-East Somerset with young people aged 7 to 21.
Each year, we support 60-70 young people facing life challenges by matching them with a trained volunteer mentor, spending weekly sessions listening to them, making a plan and helping them access the same life chances as other young people. Mentors help young people overcome obstacles, improve self-esteem, engage effectively with additional support services and access inspirational opportunities. Mentees also have access to a programme of free activities.
Young people aged 7 - 21 can be referred for volunteer mentoring. They must give informed consent, together with their families if under 18. They must either live, be educated or work in Bath and North East Somerset and be considered at risk of offending, anti-social behaviour, school exclusion or emotional harm.
Volunteer enquiries from adults able to commit to weekly mentoring are always welcome: feel free to contact us for an informal chat about the high-quality training and support offered.
Alongside this programme, Mentoring Plus also delivers the Student & Family Support (SAFS) service to young people struggling in education: those excluded from school, on managed moves between settings, with low attendance, or re-integrating following a period outside mainstream education. Children from KS1 upwards are supported with their families for approx. 16 weeks, with referrals managed via schools’ Behaviour & Attendance Panels.
The charity also provides one to one professional mentors to young people with higher levels of need or risk, often students with EHCPs or similar in place.
